During two weeks of solo travel in Havana, Cuba, I learned a lot about the lovely and interesting country from which I am from. I visited the major locations and discovered a plethora of fresh and exciting things to do, see, and experience! I even ran into several of my relatives!

- Hemingway Daiquiri
Remember that you are not the sole individual seeking for things to do in Havana, Cuba, and that this is an increasingly popular vacation spot right now. It’s still worth seeing where Hemingway said to have enjoyed the “best daiquiri in the history of mankind.” This modest pub in Havana Vieja appears to be a typical place to lounge, with live music and images of Hemingway wherever you look. And, yeah, the daiquiri is delicious!
- Ambos Mundos Hotel
Hotel Ambos Mundos is another famous Hemingway haunt in Havana, Cuba, and I discovered why when I visited. In fact, Hemingway and I would have been best friends because it’s the kind of place where I’d drink and write all day. Take the elevator to the top for a stunning view of Havana Vieja that spreads out across the bay and all the way to Morro Cabaa.
- Havana Vieja
Havana Vieja refers to “old Havana,” despite the fact that it is one of the most recently refurbished sections. It’s in the “touristy area” because of the new hotels, restaurants, landmarks, and so on, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be on the list of things to do in Havana, Cuba. There are also many more trips in Havana, Cuba that you can love!
- Partagrás
If you visit Cuba, you must observe how cigars are manufactured. It’s actually rather remarkable! Partagrás is one of the oldest and largest cigar factories in Havana, Cuba, where brands such as Cohiba and Romeo & Juliet are made. You may buy legitimate Cuban cigars in a shop, but be wary of street peddlers who will try to sell them to you illegally! If you’re staying at a hotel, the concierge can buy tour tickets for you; if not, the tourist information center within the Saratoga Hotel is close.
- Craft and Fruit Market
If you want a fresh piece of mango or watermelon, stop by one of the many small fruit vendors. Remember that they are most likely using Cuban pesos, not Cuban convertibles (CUCs) – 25 pesos = 1 CUC, so don’t get that mixed up. I discovered a rather large one on La Rampa around 23rd Street, a few blocks from the water.
- Hotel Nacional
The renowned Hotel Nacional will be visible from wherever you are. It is in the heart of Vedado and Havana Vieja, across from the Malecón. It was in the 1930s and is Havana’s most famous hotel. With its palm tree lined entrance and huge double-tower construction, it reminds me of The Breakers on Palm Beach Island. There is a lovely garden area out back where you may sit on the lawn or choose a table closer to the water for a great view of the ocean and the Malecón. Mojitos are their signature drink, and they only cost about 3 CUCs!
